I come from Bosnia Herzegovina in Eastern Europe in a village called Rizvanovici in the city, Prijedor. We had a big house, with three bedrooms, a big back garden, a plot of land, a farm and a salon. Mum had her own shop. I would help my parents and look after the animals. Looking back, I really miss the freedom that children had in that place. Children can go to the shops, do what they like.
I left there 15 years ago, when I was three and came to England in 1991. In the early 1990s, there was a civil war between Bosnia and Croatia and Serbia. Families were separated and men were put into concentration camps.
We left on buses and trucks and a plane. It was a quick departure. It’s hard to think about it, especially when it’s talked about or seen on TV, like maybe Iraq.
