I come from Iceland and I was born in Reykjavík. I was three and a half when I first came to England in 1968. My parents came over here because they were both doctors and they came to do post-graduate studying.
We moved back as a family when I was sixteen and I found that I couldn’t settle back in Iceland and I came back here. I went to university here, I then tried to go back to work and that didn’t work out either, I couldn’t get settled back into the country and its ways. I missed England, I missed London, I missed that feeling of cultural diversity, I found that having grown up as a Londoner I found Iceland too homogonous and I came back here because it was that amazing variety of life that you get as a Londoner, which I just couldn’t live without and that was what brought me back again.
