I came here to London in on 14th July 2003. I'm Portuguese and I came here because in Portugal, it's very difficult to find work, and my mother lived here. She found work for my husband.
I came on an aeroplane with my daughters aged 1 year and 4 years old. When I arrived the weather was very hot. The first thing I noticed was that the cars drove on the opposite side of the road, and the buses had two decks. Another thing I noticed were the wild animals: squirrels, birds, foxes, ducks and swans.
I had no thoughts about English food because I always eat Portuguese food and I still do. My biggest problem is the language. I never speak English to anyone except at my English class. I feel I need much more practice. I'm sure I would enjoy living in London much more if I could communicate better and I intend to take part in more activities.
