A silk banner dating from the 1920s of the London Jewish Bakers' Union. The Union was founded in 1905 for Jewish bakers in London's east end who shared the same low wages, long hours and poor conditions as bakers in the baking industry generally. To encourage customers to buy only 'union bread', every loaf from an organised shop carried a paper label similar to the one shown on the banner.
