"I knew about the West - father admired lots in the West. The most important thing for me as a girl was that he would come back from journeys and put me on his lap and tell me about the wonderful things women were doing abroad; driving cars, flying aeroplanes, you know and that 'when you grow up you too will be doing such things'. So this was unique, very unusual, in a way it was father who promised me a future and liberation."
