Election leaflet

Catalogue Reference:(LMA) GLC/DG/PUB/01/195/1679

An extract from a 1985 Greater London Council (GLC) publication entitled A History of the Black Presence in London. This shows the 1924 election leaflet of Shapurji Saklatvala who was elected as the Labour Member of Parliament in 1922 and 1924. The name of J R Archer (who had became Britain's first Black mayor in 1913) appears at the bottom of the leaflet as one of his supporters. Mr Archer was in fact his agent with responsibility for organising support and dealing with all the administrative and legal matters involved in being a candidate in a general election.
