A joyful picture of Bernie Grant, as he celebrated his election victory as the Labour Member of Parliament (MP) for Tottenham in 1992 when he increased his election majority to nearly 12,000. He had first been elected to Parliament in 1987, one of Britain's first Black MPs. Mr Grant came to Britain in 1963 from Guyana working for British Rail and then as an international telephonist, later becoming a full-time trade union official. He was elected to the London Borough of Haringey in 1978. He died in 2000.
