A 1944 photograph issued by the Ministry of Information in London showing a street scene in the shopping district in Benares in India, during a downpour of rain. Benares, which lies on the banks of the river Ganges, is a major Hindu pilgrimage site, and one of the oldest cities in India. Note the column of laden camels making their way up one side of the road.
