A girls' class in progress for 'hand and eye training' at the Jews' Free School in Stepney, east London in 1908. The two girls at the front of the class hold either end of a tape while the one standing on a bench at the back holds up a ruler on which one part of the group are focusing. The notice under the clock at the back of the room reads 'All honour to those who try'.
