School broadcasts

Catalogue Reference:(PRO) INF 10/147/003

Two classes of children, aged between 8 and 10, cluster round the radio set on a teacher's desk to listen to a school broadcast at the Highgate Government School in Jamaica in 1955. The headmaster of the school, Mr RS Brooks, stands at the back of the classroom. School broadcasting began in 1952 and nature and music programmes proved to be especially popular.
