Catalogue Reference:(LMG) LEEDM/E/1998/30/2

A certificate of appreciation from members of the Old Hebrew Congregation at the Great Synagogue in Belgrave Street, Leeds, given in 1923 to Joe Cohen. This marked the end of his four-year period of office as President of the Synagogue. The certificate also records the role played by Mr Cohen "in the many charitable and educational Institutions of our City". The top of the certificate has a gold bar for hanging on a wall.

Part of the 1956 pledge card from the South West London Synagogue in Battersea, London. There is a scale indicating the amount of money promised by the recipient of each card - marked out in guineas or 21 shillings (1.05 pounds). In 1956 the Appeal focused on the needs of North African Jews.
