Bridget Collean

Catalogue Reference:(LARO) QSP2360/63-65

One of the documents - a 'Vagrant's Examination and Pass' - relating to the return to Ireland by the authorities in Blackburn, Lancashire of Bridget Collean, a widow, and her two small daughters aged four and two. Blackburn was a fast-expanding textile town in 1845 but the two Justices of the Peace who examined Bridget decided that she had no right of settlement in England and ordered the parish constable of Blackburn to make arrangements to return her to Ireland. This happened very quickly - she went back to County Longford less than a week later.
