A blue and white prayer shawl from the South West London Synagogue in Battersea, London. The prayer shawl is a symbolic garment worn by all Jewish men at services in orthodox synagogues. The Battersea synagogue was founded in 1915 in a private house which was extended in the 1920s. The membership was at a peak in the 1950s but the synagogue closed in 1997.
