Bananas

Catalogue Reference:(PRO) CO 956/503

A Empire Marketing Board poster dated between 1926-1933 showing three men in a banana plantation. Bananas were first brought to the Caribbean in the early 16th century by a Portugese Franciscan monk. Although often called a banana palm, the banana is considered to be a perennial herb, dying back after fruiting, and then producing new growth for yet more fruit.
