A drawing made in 1941 during World War Two entitled Under the Brewery: Whitechapel Jews sheltering during a fire-raid. It shows men wrapped in blankets trying to get some sleep. East London was vulnerable to raids because of the industrial and dockland areas. During the Blitz on Britain - a period of intense bombing in 1940 and 1941 - London was bombed on 58 consecutive days.
