George Bernard Shaw was born in Dublin in 1856 and at the age of 20 moved to London. He made his name as a dramatist writing plays such as Pygmalion (which formed the basis for the musical My Fair Lady) and Saint Joan, but was also known as a socialist spokesman. He was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1925 (he accepted the award but refused the money) and died in 1950.
