A formal portrait of Shapurji Saklatvala taken in the 1920s. Mr Saklatvala was born in Bombay. He was sent to Britain for medical treatment in 1905 and, except for occasional visits to India, remained in England for the rest of his life. He joined the Communist Party in 1921 and the following year was elected as Member of Parliament for North Battersea in London.
