The Society houses Europe's largest genealogical library, with books on all aspects of family history. There are, for example, many books about immigration into Britain, from the Huguenots of the 17th century to the West Indians and Asians after the Second World War.

They also have a few, mainly American, guides to conduct research in the countries where your ancestors may have originated. They also have a large collection of other people's research, which can be surprisingly useful. On top of this they have many CDs and microfiche research aids, as well as free access to the databases on the Ancestry.com web site.

Access to the Library costs £3.30 per hour, £8.80 for four hours or £13.20 for a whole day. Members have free access at all times. The Society also runs courses and lectures on all aspects of family history. For more about the SoG refer to their web site at *www.sog.org.uk.
