Bound volumes, starting in 1849 and run until 1951, and act as finding aids for original correspondence series (see above).

Until 1926 the following details are recorded in columns:

  • registered number
  • name of the correspondence
  • date of letter
  • letter number
  • subject of letter and a brief precis
  • related correspondence
  • action taken, and remarks
Note that the registers are arranged by the date the Colonial Office received a letter; but original correspondence is arranged by date of letter.

In 1926 a series of annual subject files was introduced and the registers are arranged in file number order.
