Class 3 posts were appointments by the governor or by individual colonial departments. Although some information may be found in the records of the Colonial Office, especially the Blue Books, Colonial Office List, and Government Gazettes (described above), responsibility for appointments and pensions lay with the colonial government, rather than the Colonial Office. Any records of service, should they survive, will be with the local archive, pensions agency or the relevant departments.
