The National Archives only holds passenger lists for ships that departed from, or arrived at, UK ports. Many West Indians migrated to other countries especially in the Americas. Between 1892 and 1924 some 22 million passengers and ships' crews arrived at Ellis Island and the Port of New York, many thousand of whom were West Indians.
