In 1982 records of the India Office, the East India Company, the Board of Control and a number of related British agencies were deposited under the Public Records Act 1958 with the British Library, Oriental and India Office Collections (previously called the India Office Library and Records), 96 Euston Road, London NW1 2DB.

Correspondence from the various British government departments relating to Indians in Britain and their associations, about their living conditions and employment on the British merchant marine ships etc. were sent to the India Office.

Names of the individuals have been recorded in these administrative records. The British Library, India Office is also one of the main repositories for family history research and migration studies.
