The National Archives reference (PRO) WO329/2340 and 2938 has campaign medal rolls for the First World War for Hong Kong Singapore Royal Garrison Artillery. The award to Havildar Roshan Khan: Hong Kong-Singapore Battalion, Royal Artillery 1901 July for distinguished service and gallant conduct in the field is in the National Archives reference (PRO) WO146/1/ 29.

The long-service and good-conduct medals of the soldiers of the Hong Kong regiment is in the National Archives record (PRO) WO102/7 covering the period 1881-1901. It is on microfilm.

An alphabetical list of Indian warriors claiming medals, and correspondence regarding issuing medals is in (PRO) WO100/398.

The medal roll gives:

  • Name of the soldiers and officers
  • Regimental number
  • Rank
  • Remarks
Under remarks it occasionally states when they were discharged or pensioned and names of awards, such as Order of British India, Indian Order of Merit and Indian Mutiny Medal.

The unclaimed General Service Medals for Indian Service Corps personnel is in the National Archives record (PRO) WO100/402. The Indian Mutiny medal (75th Stirlingshire regiment) is in (PRO) WO100/405. The Indian General Service Medal with clasp for North West Frontier 1930-31 is in (PRO) WO100/404.

Indian Order of Merit
The Indian Order of Merit is the oldest gallantry award in the British Empire and was introduced by the East India Company for its native troops in 1837. It was first called the Order of Merit and later was changed to Indian Order of Merit. In 1902 it was changed to Imperial Order of Merit.
