Service Records: Other Ranks
The service records of soldiers who served in HKSRA and HKSRGA units are held in the National Archives record series (PRO)WO97.

In WO 97 the documents are arranged in three series:

  • By date of discharge to pension: for the period 1760-1872 the documents are arranged alphabetically, by name within regiment, including militia to 1854
  • From 1873-82 the documents are arranged alphabetically under cavalry, artillery, infantry and corps; from 1883-1913
  • There is one alphabetical sequence for the entire army (in the National Archives record (PRO) WO97/2172-6322).
For example, soldiers with the surname ending with 'Singh' are under National Archives document references (PRO) WO97/5909 and 5910 (1900-13). . Soldiers' surnames ending with 'Khan' are in (PRO) WO97/5281 for 1900-13.
