Wills are normally kept with the family of the person concerned, but some may also be found at the local register office.

Indian armed forces personnel records are held at the National Archives of India.

The outgoing passenger lists may be available in the Office of the Port Trust in India where the passengers were boarded. Also the Marine Department files created during the era of the East India Company are held at the West Bengal, Maharashtra (Mumbai) and Tamil Nadu (Madras) state archives, and these institutions may give such information. Passport records are kept at the Regional Passport Office of each state in India.
