In 1921 Burton began to develop the Hudson Road factory in Leeds, purchased from Albrecht and Albrecht. His plan was to concentrate all the manufacturing operations under one roof. Step by step over the next 15 years it grew into the largest clothing factory in Europe.

The company's balance sheets indicate that between 1918 and 1920 the firm's turnover trebled to just under £700,000, further growing to nearly £1.7 million by 1924. Net profits increased fivefold to over £130,000 - a considerable sum for those days.
