There were all sorts of Jewish organisations and welfare bodies in the town - hospitals, an orphanage, religious schools, newspapers, a theatre, a library, choirs, even a Maccabi sports club. Novogrodek also housed a world famous Yeshiva (rabbinical training college). After the First World War Zionism became popular, especially with younger people, and a number of Zionist groups and youth clubs sprang up.
