Pupils at Novogrodek's famous Beis Yosef Yeshiva. Founded in 1906 by Rabbi Yosef Yozel Horowitz, it was known for its high standards of  moral conduct, based upon profound religious faith.

There were all sorts of Jewish organisations and welfare bodies in the town - hospitals, an orphanage, religious schools, newspapers, a theatre, a library, choirs, even a *Maccabi sports club. Novogrodek also housed a world famous Yeshiva (rabbinical training college). After the First World War Zionism became popular, especially with younger people, and a number of Zionist groups and youth clubs sprang up.
