ZionismZionism was a political movement formed in the late nineteenth century. It held its first conference at Basel in Switzerland 1897, led by Theodor Herzl. In 1917 the British Foreign Secretary, Arthur Balfour, wrote a letter - the Balfour Declaration - stating UK government support for a Jewish homeland in Palestine. |
