Pahari miniature paintingPahari miniature painting flourished between the 17th and 19th centuries in northern India. Many of the later paintings focus on the life of the god Kirshna. This is a selection from the collection of the Victoria and Albert Museum. Partition - the Punjab Boundary Force 1947The 50,000 strong Punjab Boundary Force was set up under the command of Major-General T W Rees in an attempt to control violence in the Punjab during the period of Indian independence and partition. It operated for a month in August 1947 but, despite its efforts, some 200,000 people were killed. This is the report by Major-General Rees. |
