Kalighat artKalighat art originated in nineteenth-century Calcutta where paintings were sold to pilgrims visiting the Kalighat temple. The artists drew not only on the rich cultural and artistic tradition of Bengal but also depicted the world around them in lively, satirical and highly coloured paintings. |
