Luton Museum and Gallery is part of a medium sized museum service run by Luton Borough Council. It provides a range of services to local people and those from further afield. Its displays include archaeology, lace, and a gallery devoted to the Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire Regiment. The family-friendly Luton Life displays look at the town and its people over the last 200 years. The Museum also runs a busy programme of temporary exhibitions and events throughout the year. The Museum Education Service provides a range of resources and lively activity sessions for schools and older learners.
The Museum has major holdings of lace and hats which attract enquiries from all over the world. There are strong collections of local history documents and photographs. We are gathering other material such as oral history recordings to supplement our existing archive. The population of Luton is culturally diverse and we hope to acquire more resources which will allow us to represent the experiences of all our local communities.
