Walsall Local History Centre (WLHC)

The Local History Centre opened in its current building, a converted Edwardian school in 1986. It holds over 100 tons of documents and local records. These include records of the borough of Walsall which go back to the thirteenth century, records of local firms particularly leather, lock and metal working firms, records of local organisations and records of individuals including the Walsall nursing pioneer, Dorothy Pattison and the author, Jerome K. Jerome who was born in Walsall. The Centre also has an extensive local studies library, over 12,000 photographs, Walsall newspapers from the nineteenth century onwards and a large holding of maps relating to the local area. We have copies of many sources of use to family historians such as the census, parish registers, the General Register Office index and the International Genealogical Index.

Included in the Moving Here catalogue are personal audio interviews and local Walsall newspaper articles.
